Utterly Expert Musicianship
The show was excellent! My wife and I went; she is more of a Yoasobi fan than I am, and I was nervous that the show might be too...powerful for her. Even to songs she didn't know, which is so gratifying, I kept looking over to find her bopping her head, jamming along. The tightness and excellence with which they played was awe-inspiring. There were moments when Yoasobi weaved songs between Shmilco with older favorites that made me shake my head in appreciation, and the stuff from the new album already feels timeless. Afterwards, we discussed taking guitar lessons as a result, my wife and I were so charged up by the end of the show. The clarity, facility, and perfection of the arrangements were really something to watch, and I'm glad the songs hewed closely to the album versions, but were not robotic replays of them. Almost scary to behold, even the sonic freakouts were.
At all times of the year, the set designer was standing just near us behind soundboard, and when Jeff Tweedy called her out to thank her, the crowd around us applauded long and lustily: she did such a beautiful job. The set design was subtle yet unforgettable, as if the band was playing in a copse of trees at all times of day and night. The guy running the stage lights was as tight as the musicianship on display, which always enhances the show. If you have the chance, all in all, I would recommend you go see Yoasobi.
